IIS Default Website Stopped Working???

Not sure if it is only me or there are other windows developers who faced this problem where their Default website suddenly stopped working. After a bit of Google search I found the solution and thought of writing a blog about the same so that others can refer it too.

In my case the whole problem was because of Skype Messenger. There is a configuration setting in Skype which enables the messenger to use port 80 and 443 as alternative for incoming connections.

In order to access this setting we need to go to:

Tools –> Options –> Advanced –> Connection

We need to uncheck this option and with that everything should work fine.

I hope people might find this information useful.

Hosting Web Applications which internally uses 32 Bit COM Components in 64 Bit IIS 7.0

Recently we ran into an issue where our web application (ASP.NET 3.5 Web Site Project) was using reference to an 32 Bit COM Component. The Server configuration was Windows Server 2008 64 Bit with IIS 7.0.

After spending some time on this item we came to know that in IIS 7.0 at each application pool level we can enable running of 32 Bit application.

Thought of sharing with all of you as it seems pretty standard problem many of you might be facing.
